Nine ways to see East Java properly

All private, all from your hotel, all with me. Day trips can be joined into a longer route — Bromo in the morning, Tumpak Sewu after lunch, Ijen the next night. Prices are per person based on two travellers; groups pay less per head.

Private Easy Starts 00:30

Mount Bromo Sunrise Tour

The classic East Java morning — done at your pace, not the bus's.

  • Sunrise over the caldera from King Kong Hill or Penanjakan — I pick the quieter spot for the day
  • Private 4×4 jeep across the Sea of Sand
  • Walk (or ride a horse) to the smoking Bromo crater — 250 steps to the rim

from $55 per person

Ijen Blue Fire & Crater Lake Tour

Blue flames in the crater at 03:30, sunrise over the acid lake at 05:15 — one long night, walked at your pace.

  • The blue fire — burning sulphur gas at the bottom of the crater, seen from a few metres away when the rangers allow the descent
  • Sunrise over the turquoise crater lake from the rim at 2,386 m — the largest acidic crater lake in the world
  • Meeting the sulphur miners on the path, carrying 70–90 kg baskets down the mountain

from $65 per person

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall Tour

A 120 m curtain of water in a jungle gorge — from the viewpoint at first light, and, if the river allows, from the bottom.

  • The Panorama viewpoint at first light — the whole 120 m horseshoe of falls, with Semeru behind it on clear mornings
  • Down to the base: bamboo ladders, ropes and a river crossing, until you stand in the spray with the whole curtain above you
  • Goa Tetes — a dripping cave with terraces of orange and green mineral deposits, 30 minutes further along the river

from $50 per person

Bromo + Ijen 2 Days / 1 Night

Sunrise at Bromo, blue fire at Ijen the next night, then the ferry to Bali — the classic route, in a private car, with the same guide both mornings.

  • Sunrise over the Tengger caldera from a quieter viewpoint, then the walk up to the smoking Bromo crater
  • The drive east along the north coast, with a proper lunch stop and a hotel bed before Ijen
  • Ijen's blue fire from inside the crater at around 03:30 — when the gas and the rangers allow

from $180 per person

Bromo + Tumpak Sewu + Ijen 3 Days / 2 Nights

Waterfall, volcano, blue fire — the full East Java line from Malang to the Bali ferry, with a real night's sleep before each volcano.

  • Tumpak Sewu at first light — the viewpoint, then down the ladders to the base of the falls and Goa Tetes
  • A night in Cemoro Lawang at 1,900 m on the caldera rim — cold, quiet, and 03:15 does not feel so early from there
  • Bromo sunrise by private jeep, then the crater rim and the savanna before the crowds

from $260 per person

  • Toko Oen, the 1930s ice-cream parlour, rattan chairs and all
  • Kayutangan heritage street at golden hour and the old lanes behind it

from $30 per person

Hidden East Java — 5 Days Off the Main Route

The volcanoes and waterfalls everyone comes for, reached from the quiet side — with the villages, savannas and plantations in between.

  • Tumpak Sewu, Kapas Biru and Madakaripura — three very different waterfalls, each at the right time of day
  • Kawah Wurung savanna and the Blawan hot springs on the Bondowoso side of Ijen

from $480 per person

How prices work

Every "from" price assumes two travellers in a private car. Three or more people bring the per-person price down; solo travellers can ask about sharing the jeep at Bromo. Park entrance fees are always listed separately so you know exactly what to bring in cash.

Build your own route

Most guests combine two or three tours. Tell me your start point, end point and number of days, and I'll send a day-by-day plan with one total price — or use the trip planner to get a first suggestion in a minute.

Booking is a conversation

Message me on WhatsApp with your dates. I confirm availability, we agree the plan and price, and that's it — no deposit until then, free cancellation up to 48 hours before, and my personal number for the whole trip.
